Grow FRESH fruit and veg!

Welcome to the web site of South Chadderton
Allotment Association. This is our very first attempt at
a web site, ( can you tell!)? We would very much like
to hear your comments, ideas and input as to how we
can improve it. Over the next few weeks and months,
just like our allotment plots, we hope that it will grow
and mature into something very tasty!

Harvest Pestival!

I dug up me garden, all in good time,
And bought some manure and a few bags of lime.
Then wood ash I sprinkled all over me soil,
To boost the rewards of ‘ard work and toil.

I spread it, I dug it, I worked it in well,
I even ignored the ‘orrible smell.
Peat and sand I lovingly scattered,
each single seed sown as though they all mattered.

Then all that was needed,
Wuz the rain and the sun
And I stood there thinkin’
All me ‘ard work Wuz done.

But alas and alack, it wasn’t to be
The wee creepy beasties beat me to it you see.
Me tomatoes and greens never even got started,
But still I refused to be really downhearted.

Us gardeners won’t admit we’re a right load of mugs,
growing carrots and suchlike just to fatten up slugs.
Yet me runners are drooping and ready to die,
‘cos of brown spot and mildew and bloomin’ black fly.

Darn greenfly and whitefly and red spider mite
Are busily gorging all day and all night.
Blackcurrants and goosegogs were then to be had
But the ones that the birds left were nearly all bad.

There wuz plenty of lettuce much more than I need
But why dear lord did they all go to seed?
So all that I grew is now gone and forgotten,
Unfit for me table all soggy and rotten.

Yet all is not lost,
For my weeds are just fine.
It’s a good year to brew
my own dandelion wine!!!
Hooray - you've found us!!!!
